BIOGRAPHY
Since age seven, Clarity Liao has written many songs throughout the years. She most recently has been the principal songwriter for the band Navillera who released seven singles, most notably their debut song in 2024 “Too Young,” a winner of the 2024 Yamaha National Best Popular Music Award. Another song penned by Clarity, “I Need You,” won 1st place in the YMS 2025 National Composers. Now she hopes to go solo and finish working on her own EP.
Her new work explores new genres; Skewing her previous styles of indie pop, her new songs include a wider range of different genres like R&B, bedroom pop, and modern doowop. Clarity often explores different styles of music in the same collection of songs; each song is a different vibe for a different feeling represented by the many styles of music.
Clarity’s upcoming release is a work-in-progress written solely by her and her producers at Laughing Tiger, Kendrick fielder and Erin Tadena. “Dear…” is an EP exploring love, jealousy, and loss.
Many of the songs in the album are love letters. These are letters that express what Clarity always wanted to say in person but never could. Each song is about the interaction of acceptance and the denial of rejection and loneliness. In this world, love represents the bittersweet cage of no escape. Nothing really hurts, Clarity sings in “Love You More,” but it hurts that you don't know me. In another letter, “Like I Do,” she explores the feeling of unrequited love through the metaphor of desperation in an endless desert:
I’ll walk over deserts thinking I’ll be with you maybe I never got that thought out my head
they say what's the waiting
its cus you don’t like me baby
its one sided love this time
Clarity’s inspirations include classics as well as contemporary artists, especially Bruno Mars, Regina Song, and Adele. Her newest work especially echoes Olivia Rodrigo in terms of her vibe and her themes about life.
We hope Clarity’s new music will drop in late 2026 just in time for fall.
